NYC DEPT OF ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP’s water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.

DEP’s Fleet Services Division oversees the purchase, use, maintenance and management of DEP vehicles, special equipment and related services. Fleet Services also monitors compliance with NYC Fleet and Vision Zero mandates, fuel and E-ZPass rules, parking and traffic regulations, and driver safety initiatives. The dynamic Fleet Services team provides complete life cycle management (design / build, distribution / maintenance, and relinquishment) of approximately 5,000 pieces of equipment throughout the 5 boros and NYC’s unique watershed.

DEP is currently seeking a dynamic individual to perform the role of Fleet Services Specialist. Under the direction of the Director of Fleet Services, the Fleet Services Specialist will manages all of DEP’s on road and off-road equipment used throughout the Agency.

Duties will include but not limited to:

First and primary point of contact for the Agency’s Fleet Share Program
Under supervision, conduct quality assurance inspections and tests to determine the acceptability and safe operation of automotive vehicles and transport equipment.
Inspect automotive parts, supplies, and repairs to ensure adherence to purchase or contract specifications, terms, conditions, and related regulations.
Inspect all types of vehicles used by City agencies, as well as all automotive equipment, parts, and supplies necessary for their operation, maintenance, and repair.
Inspect vehicles in service to determine the extent of need for repairs; inspect repair work and monitor all warranty agreements.
Recommend acceptance, rejection or conditional acceptance of deliveries of vehicles and automotive parts and supplies.
Assist in preparing estimates of price reductions for deliveries accepted conditionally. Witness or conduct required tests and measurements.
Provide customer service for external/internal fleet service clients. Investigate and report on complaints from receiving parties.
Keep records and prepare required reports using manual and computer systems.
Operate a motor vehicle in performance of duties. May perform quality assurance inspections of items unrelated to those described above.
May supervise the work of other staff.
Minimum Qual Requirements
 
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time experience, conducting quality assurance inspections and tests to determine the acceptability and safe operation of automotive vehicles and transport equipment, inspects automotive parts, supplies and repairs to ensure adherence to purchase or contract specifications; or

2. An associate degree from an accredited college, plus two years and six months of satisfactory full-time experience as described in “1” above; or

3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, plus one year of satisfactory full-time satisfactory experience as described in “1” above; or

4. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to “1”, “2” or “3” above. Undergraduate college credit may be substituted for experience on the basis of 40 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience.

However, all candidates must have a high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least one year of satisfactory full-time experience as described in “1” above.

License Requirement:
A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Preferred Skills
 
Strong oral communication and presentation skills.

Driver License Requirement:
At the time of appointment to certain positions, candidates may be required to possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. If required, employees must maintain this license for the duration of employment.

Residency Requirement
 
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
