Full-time Supervising Psychologist is needed for the Mental Health Out-patient Clinic, operated by Suffolk County Department of Health Services, Division of Community Mental Hygiene. An employee in this class performs administrative and supervisory work in the direction of clinical psychological services.
Administers and supervises the total psychological program, including training of personnel, review of reports and work assignments;
Develops and evaluates the programs and performance of the psychological and programmatic services of mental health clinics and/or contract agencies;
Delivers speeches, holds seminars and organizes workshops on mental health topics involving various interested community groups and agencies;
May help to program and develop existing services;
Determines the type of tests to be administered by the Clinician and interprets all types of intelligence and personality tests;
Makes detailed analyses of test results, carries on necessary interviews to obtain complete information in each case, and prepares diagnostic reports for case records and for presentation to the staff;
Participates in research studies of the clinics and is responsible for all research activities of the psychological staff;
Provides supervision of professional staff;
Performs and/or supervises various clinical assessments, inclusive of forensic evaluations.
Minimum Qualifications:
– Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Doctorate Degree in Psychology, and five (5) years of experience in an outpatient clinic or community mental health agency, one (1) year of which must have been in a position involving supervision or administration of a mental health agency.
– Candidates must possess a license to practice psychology in the State of New York.
Essential knowledge, skills and abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of personality development factors which contribute to intellectual, emotional and social maladjustments and deficiencies; comprehensive knowledge of psychological tests and measurements, including the specialized tests used with children as well as with adults; good knowledge of the local and allied community services and programs relating to the mental health services; good knowledge of the methods and techniques of statistical procedures; knowledge of Federal and State programs relating to comprehensive mental health services and programs; knowledge of education disabilities and methods of remedial instruction; ability to supervise and train others in clinical psychology and to work effectively with associates; ability to analyze, evaluate and administer the psychological aspects of the Mental Health Outpatient Program, and to make practical recommendations concerning their improvement; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
